Tom Fournier
As an employment consultant for the Youth Access Program at Lutherwood, Tom Fournier spends his days helping youth with learning disabilities and challenges find and maintain jobs.
"It's nice to see the growth in the young individuals we work with," Fournier says. "For many of the kids, it's the first time they've been successful at anything. It's nice to see."
To ensure the kids maintain this success, Fournier also helps kids move into an apartment, set up utilities, get to doctor appointments or "whatever it takes to help them keep their jobs."

Because some youth struggle with the social aspect of the job, Fournier has even taken them into the lunchroom to teach them how to chat with co-workers.

"That's a big part of the enjoyment," Fournier says.

At night, Fournier volunteers his time at the Whip Boxing Academy, helping kids build confidence and strength.

Fournier spends countless hours in the gym helping these children box and be productive citizens in their community.

"You get to see a growth in the young kids when they come in," he says.

Fournier also helped supervise homeless teens at the Betty Thompson centre and volunteers at the Kitchener Probation and Parole office.

Margo Blayney, program manager at Lutherwood, says sometimes Fournier has to help motivate clients to want to work.

"He really goes that extra mile to ensure youth receive the support they need to be successful," she says.
